As you know, the Nina & Co. team are champions of ethical food production and animal welfare. Liar, liar … pants on fire!

I’m sorry about my juvenile tantrum, but this recent news has got me stamping my tinies. Perhaps some culture would help me redeem myself? Thanks to Sir Walter Scott for this one… “Oh! What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive“.

Wondering what we’re talking about? Supermarkets blatantly deceiving the public again. What else? Continue reading

Winning the War on Waste?

Stop wasting food conceptIf you’re a regular to the Nina & Co. blog, you’ll know how irked I get when it comes to the senseless waste of food.  You’ll also know I’ve been ranting about it for years.  That’s why I thought it was time to give you a progress update and share my delight at how the war on waste is gradually being won.  Continue reading

Micropubs – where small is beautiful…

beer glass on bar tableRemember the days when a pub was a pub? Where you went for a quiet drink to unwind after a hard day. A place where you could meet your friends, or pop in knowing there would always be someone up for a chat. A place where you could play a game of dominos or shove ha’penny, and people made their own entertainment. Well, they’re back! After years of decline, the face of the UK’s pub culture is changing. Leopards and supermarkets never change their spots

Leopard closeup
You know when you get that warm, fuzzy feeling inside? When the bad boys suddenly do something good for a change? Well, that happened to me just before Easter. I had almost forgiven Tesco for some of its past transgressions when the news broke about its fictional farms. Continue reading

Proud to be a Cherwell Micro Business Finalist

It’s that time of year again when the tension mounts in North Oxfordshire. That’s nothing to do with the tourist season, global warming or the price of fish. It’s the build-up to the annual Cherwell Business Awards.  For the second time in the past three years, Nina & Co is delighted to be a finalist. Continue reading

British Pig Farms – RIP

You know the phrase ‘use it or lose it’? It’s one that will soon be applied to the British Pork industry. Since 2002, half the UK’s dairy farms have gone out of business because it costs more to produce milk than the mighty supermarkets will pay for it. Now the latest casualty in the supermarkets and cheap imports war is our pork farmers. Something MUST be done to protect our farmers and our food security, and it must be done NOW! Continue reading

Health WARNING! Butter vs oils and spreads causes confusion and headaches – FACT!

I like to keep abreast of what’s happening on the food front and it’s not easy. It changes almost daily. We’re told to eat ‘this’ because it’s good for us. Then we’re told avoid ‘that’ because it’s bad for us. Well I’m making a diagnoses of my own here… this ongoing debate and conflicting advice is a health hazard… and is a major cause of confusion and headaches. Continue reading
